In 2007 Joel had quadruple by-pass surgery. Afterward, he followed the advice from doctors and the American Heart Association for a healthy lifestyle for the first year. But then Joel slowly slipped back into his old routine of eating too much of the wrong food and not exercising.
Nine years later the scales hit 265. He had his annual visit with his doctors and the results were not good. Blood results revealed he was just one point away from crossing over to diabetes and his cardiologist strongly suggested he make some life changes.
