Chuck has been working out most of his life as well as keeping a healthy diet and taking great care of his body. He has been a member of Fitness 24-7 since 2004.
In 2011 Chuck went through a traumatic experience when he was diagnosed with cancer. After being diagnosed, Chuck underwent surgery to remove a muscle in his neck and shoulder to remove the cancer. Although all the cancer was removed, it was a tough road to recovery.
Chuck was a teacher at Kempsville Middle School and had to take five months off from work. The support from the teachers who Chuck knew and even those he didn't know was enormous. “Teachers I didn't even know were donating days to me so that I could take off from work to recover,” says Chuck.
After the surgery, Chuck could not swallow and had to eat from a feeding tube. “It got so bad, he didn't know if he could do this much longer,” says his wife, Kendal. “
Chuck was able to return to working out in 2012. He previously used free weights and the barbells but he was not able to do the same workouts when he got back to the gym. Despite that he has built his muscle back up from using the machines at Fitness 24-7. “I love the fact that no matter what your goals are or where you're at in your workouts, Fitness 24-7 has equipment for anyone,” says Chuck.
Since he has covered from his surgery and treatment, he has been working out four days a week. He is back to being physically fit and although the are no obvious signs of his cancer battle in 2011, the effects of the treatment has left numbness in the right side of his shoulder and neck.
“Staying positive with hope and keeping spirits up really helped,” says Chuck. “I love the caring support and thoughtfulness Beth and Tom McPherson have offered me.” In addition, Chuck loves the convenience of Fitness 24-7 and that he can just ride his bike to the gym!
